śrī śrī vaiṣṇava-caraṇe daṇḍavat-nati pūrvikeyam –
I first of all offer my obeisances at the feet of the Vaiṣṇavas.
Ānanda, I become very happy to receive your letter dated 23.08.61. I have inquired about you in all of my letters and became concerned, having not received a letter from you for many days. Your Bengali handwriting has become very beautiful. By the mercy of most worshipful Śrī Śrīla Gurudeva, we maṭha residents are all well. I hope the Vaiṣṇavas there [in Śrī Devānanda Gauḍīya Maṭha] are also well.
Knowing that most worshipful Śrī Śrīla Gurudeva is gradually feeling more weakness filled me with concern and pain. All of you there, especially you, must take special care of him. Give him more of nourishing foods like milk, ghee, butter and fruits regularly. It will be good to give him some fruit juice or milk every morning and evening. Even if he objects to this, you must request him with folded palms to kindly accept it for the sake of all of us and for the welfare of the whole world. Please endeavour with all your life energy to make his body healthy. You are intelligent. What else I can say on this matter?
I am overjoyed to hear that the roof of Śrī Mandira [in Śrī Devānanda Gauḍīya Maṭha] has been constructed and that this service has been done by all the maṭha residents. Has the construction of the temple stopped for now? Here in the Mathurā maṭha, much renovation work has been done on the ground and first floor, and more will be done. By the time the parikramā [party, to attend Śrī Vraja-maṇḍala] arrives, an appropriate place for the gentle people to stay will be ready on those two floors. Some land has been acquired behind the maṭha. We will make bathrooms and so forth for the arrival of Guru Mahārāja here. Respond by letter.
